First Jobs.
We’ve all had them… those jobs that maybe aren’t the most glamorous. But hey, we’ve all gotta start somewhere, right?
Take George Kosch, for example—the co-founder and CEO of Worldprofit.
Wanna know what his first job was?
Worm Picker. Yep, you read that right.
Picture this: 4:30 a.m., before sunrise. George, with a miner’s headlamp strapped on, grabbing a bucket and sawdust.
He’d head to the golf course, collecting squiggly, slippery worms.
The sawdust helped them stick to his hands so he could drop them into the bucket. The more worms he collected, the more money he made. Not a fortune—but it was enough to grab some pizza and a pop.
But here’s the thing—it taught him a valuable lesson:
The early bird (in this case Picker) catches the worm, but it also takes a lot of hard work to make a little bit of cash.
That got him thinking… There’s got to be a better way to make money.
Here’s the catch—he had no money. Zero.
Then one day, a Canadian Armed Forces recruiter came to his high school.
George, eager for something bigger, pointed at the poster of a F18 jet on the wall and asked, "How do I become a pilot?"
The recruiter smiled and said, "We’ll teach you. But you have to do the work to earn your wings."
More lessons: Set your sights on what you want, ask the right questions, and put in the effort.
George earned his Honors degree from the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, worked hard and became a jet pilot.
On his last tour, he was an instructor, teaching young cadets to fly.
But after completing his military service, George was ready for a new challenge this time with his feet on the ground.
It was 1993, and the internet was just beginning to take off.
He saw the opportunity, dived in, and, with co-founder Sandi Hunter, created Worldprofit Inc.—a company built on the idea that anyone, anywhere, could work from home by using the power of the internet.
Worldprofit created services people could resell and earn affiliate commissions.
At the time, affiliate marketing was just starting to catch on… and do you know who else jumped into that space?
Amazon. Yes, that Amazon—years later, they launched their own affiliate program.
Now, 30 years later, Worldprofit Inc. is continuing to thrive, helping people earn money from home through affiliate marketing.
So, what’s George Kosch up to today?
